What are the exact steps to setting a table? Here's How To Do Stunning Table Setting For Your Party! I'm including:
  • How To Steps
  • Vintage Tips
  • Secret to Success
From a favorite vintage book on my bookshelf, Etiquette by Emily Post (269), enjoy adding a little fine living to your party or family table!

Your family will feel loved with these special touches!  Mine does.
LEARNING LIBRARY | HOMEKEEP | CHAPTER 6
CONTENTS
Is there any reason why you wouldn't Say Yes! to Homekeeping Success?  Of course not!  In this chapter, you will learn the proper order of table-setting for a party (or even better, for dinners with your sweet family!).

Order of Table-Setting

The items of a properly equipped dinner table include:
  1. Tablecloth: A tablecloth, or place mats, or whatever is to be the foundation of the setting.
  2. Centerpiece: A centerpiece of fruit, flowers, or an ornament.
  3. Place Plate: A place plate (often called a service place or charger) marking the center of each place set for each person at table.
  4. Flat silver: Implements necessary for the cources to be served - three forks, three knives and soup spoon, and either fruit spoon or oystery fork maximum amount.
  5. Candlesticks: Never less than four candlesticks or two candelabra. Two candles are absurdly out of proportion to any table bigger than a card table.
  6. Sweets: Two dishes of sweets* on a refectory table, four dishes on a round or square table.
  7. Glasses: Glasses for whatever you serve. (Never put on glasses or pieces of flat silver that are not to be used.)
  8. Salt & Pepper: Salt cellars and pepper pots between every two places.
  9. Napkin: A napkin on each place plate.

Tips for the Table

  • Do use bread and butter plates for family table but not dinner party.
  • Do  add salted nuts above each place or in a pair of dishes if desired.
  • Don't use place cards for dinners with less than ten persons.
  • Do use place favors at Christmas, Thanksgiving, birthdays, weddings,  anniversaries, or other intimate dinners.
  • Do use place cards for formal occasions.

Secret to Success!

Plan, plan, plan is key to being a good hostess. Here's where your planner comes in handy!  Use those special Note Pages on the back for Party Planning with pink pen.  Use the Meal Planning page to jot down your menu.
